Washburn's Metal Frame Horn Dolly — Dual-Wheel | Transmission-Out VW Chassis
Purpose-built for moving a transmission-out VW chassis around the shop or garage without scraping the frame horns or damaging the floor pan. The dual-wheel design distributes load over both frame horns simultaneously for stable, controlled movement of even a fully-stripped pan.
Once the transmission is out, the rear of the pan rests on the frame horns instead of rolling on its own wheels. This dolly cradles the frame horns on dual heavy-duty casters so you can push the chassis with one hand, rotate it in place, and position it precisely for body lowering, alignment, or fabrication.
Vehicle Fitment
VW Beetle: All years (pre-1968 frame horn geometry preferred)
VW Bus / Transporter: Pre-1968 split-window and early Bay Window
VW Karmann Ghia: All years
VW Type 3: All years
VW Thing: 1973–1974
Designed for: Chassis work where the transmission is removed and the rear of the pan rests on the frame horns.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why use a frame horn dolly instead of jack stands? Once the transmission is pulled, the rear of the chassis loses its support. A frame horn dolly bolts to the rear frame horns so the chassis stays stable and rollable in your garage.
Will this fit any air-cooled VW? It fits pre-'68 Bus, Type 3, all years Karmann Ghia, Thing, and Beetle — anything with the standard rear frame-horn bolt pattern.
Dual wheels vs. single wheel? Dual wheels give more stability and weight capacity if the engine and trans are out long term. Single-wheel dollies are cheaper and easier to maneuver in tight spaces.
Are the casters serviceable? Yes — Zerk grease fittings and ball bearings, so you can re-pack the bearings as needed.
What hardware is included? Two M18 bolts for bolting the dolly to your frame horns, all caster mounting bolts, and a storage provision on the cart for the bolts when not in use.
