The EMPI 40K Deluxe Kadron Carburetor Kit is a faithful reproduction of the original Brazilian Solex/Brosol sidedraft carburetors that earned the Kadron name a cult following in the air-cooled VW community. Smoother and more streetable than a Weber IDF or HPMX, with the period-correct look restoration enthusiasts and Cal-Look builders love.
Kit Includes
- Two EMPI 40K carburetors (40mm, pre-jetted, left and right side specific)
- Aluminum intake manifolds
- EMPI Deluxe Twist Linkage with sealed aircraft Heim rod ends
- Chrome top air cleaners with high-flow gauze elements
- Brass fuel tee fitting and fuel line
- Manifold gaskets and complete mounting hardware
Why Kadron Over IDF / HPMX
Kadron-style carbs are progressive single-barrel sidedrafts — simpler internally than a Weber IDF and easier to tune for street use. They make excellent torque on stock-to-mild 1600cc engines, idle smoothly, and don't require the constant fiddling some Weber owners deal with. The trade-off: they don't have the top-end potential of a 44mm IDF/HPMX for high-rpm performance builds. For street driving, weekend cruising, and resto-cal builds, Kadrons are hard to beat.

- Compatible with stock fan shroud (unlike many IDF kits)
- For 1700-2000cc Bus and Type 4 engines, use EMPI 43-4431 instead

- Brass vent tube prevents flooding on off-road and drag applications
- Vacuum improvements support single vacuum-advance distributors without affecting idle

Installation note: Pre-jetted for typical 1600cc applications. Larger displacement or modified engines may need jetting adjustments. A vacuum-assisted distributor is recommended for best part-throttle response. Use the EMPI Pro-Sync (43-5712-0 or 43-5718-0) for proper carb synchronization.
