The PMO 50mm Carburetor Kit is the ultimate induction setup for big-displacement air-cooled Porsche 911 builds — 3.6L stroker motors, 3.8L race engines, and 4.0L+ all-out builds. The 50mm size was never offered by Weber (which topped out at 46mm with a restrictive throttle plate enlargement). PMO designed and manufactures the only true 50mm air-cooled Porsche carburetor in the world. Made in Anaheim, California by EMPI.
Kit Includes
- Two PMO 50mm carburetors (jetting per application — performance baseline)
- 43mm chokes (typical), 185 main jets, 60 idle jets
- 190 air correction jets, F2t emulsion tubes
- PMO throttle linkage
- PMO fuel pressure regulator
- Carburetor isolators
- Complete hardware and fuel hose
Why 50mm Over 46mm
For engines over 3.4L, a 46mm carb becomes a restriction at peak RPM. The PMO 50mm has 8.6% more throttle area — significant on engines breathing more than the original 911 designers planned for. This is the carb of choice for serious 964 / 993 stroker builds, hot-rodded 3.6L motors, and outlaw race engines.
Why PMO Over Modified Weber
- Weber never made a 50mm air-cooled Porsche carb — period
- "50mm" Weber conversions are 46mm bodies with bored plates — restrictive top end
- PMO 50mm is a true 50mm throttle bore from top to bottom
- One-piece stainless throttle shafts with ball bearings — no air leaks
- Float bowl sight glasses for tuning without disassembly
- Aerospace-grade billet construction
Fitment
- 1965-1998 Porsche 911 / 914-6 / 964 / 993 with 3.6L+ engine
- Best for stroker, big-bore, and race applications
- Requires appropriate intake manifolds — PMO 50mm billet manifolds sold separately
- Hood/decklid clearance — verify before ordering for early 911 chassis
Made in Anaheim, California
EMPI-manufactured at PMO's California facility. Same engineering Richard Parr developed. Now backed by EMPI's investment in expanded machinery.
Note: 50mm is a serious carb for serious builds. Not recommended for stock or mildly-built engines below 3.4L — the 46mm or 40mm kits will make better power on smaller motors.
Installation: Final jetting must be tuned to your specific build. PMO Carb Setup Sheet required. Professional dyno tuning strongly recommended.
