Sway-A-Way precision spacer set designed for Volkswagen Swing Axle assemblies. In a swing axle setup, proper alignment between the axle shaft, the wheel bearing, and the bearing retainer is essential to prevent lateral play. This component ensures that the axle is positioned correctly within the housing, maintaining the precise tolerances required to prevent premature bearing wear and oil leaks.
Performance & Fitment
- Application: Volkswagen Swing Axle Rear Suspension
- Function: Provides critical spacing for axle and bearing alignment
- Compatibility: Designed for VW Type 1 (Beetle/Bug), Type 2 (Bus), and Type 3 models equipped with a swing axle rear end
- Alignment: Specifically engineered to take up the slack in the axle stack-up, ensuring the bearing is seated firmly against the axle shoulder and the outer spacer
- Fitment Note: Often replaced during a rear wheel bearing service or when upgrading to high-performance axles where factory tolerances must be maintained
Premium Construction
- Material: Manufactured from high-quality, heavy-duty steel to withstand the constant axial thrust loads of the rear suspension
- Precision Machining: CNC-machined to exacting tolerances for a perfect fit over the axle shaft without excessive slop, vital for maintaining a leak-free seal
- Durability: Engineered to resist crushing or deformation under the high torque loads of the axle nut
- Finish: Treated with a corrosion-resistant coating to prevent rust-jacking, which can make future bearing removals difficult
⚠️ Technical Installation Notes
- The "Paper Gasket" Factor: When installing this spacer and the surrounding bearing components, the thickness of your gaskets and O-rings is critical. If the spacing is off by even a fraction of a millimeter, the bearing may float, leading to a persistent gear oil leak at the rear brakes.
- Orientation: Ensure the spacer is seated completely flat against the bearing inner race. Any debris trapped behind this spacer will cause the axle nut to give a false torque reading.
- Torque Spec: Always torque your axle nuts to the factory-specified setting. This spacer is part of the crush stack that holds your rear wheel on.
