Engineered for early air-cooled Volkswagens, these Link Pin Weld-On Beam Adjusters provide the ultimate solution for customizing your ride height. Whether you’re building a "nose-down" California Looker or a lifted off-road project, these all-steel adjusters allow you to rotate the center torsion leaf anchor point to achieve the exact stance you’re looking for.
For the "nothing to hide" builder, these are essential for any custom-fabricated front beam. By replacing the fixed factory anchor with this adjustable assembly, you ensure that your suspension remains tuneable as your wheel, tire, and weight configurations change over time.
Why These are Useful on a Beam:
-
Mechanical Precision: Unlike "cutting and turning," which is a permanent guess, these adjusters allow for incremental changes even after the car is fully assembled.
-
Torsion Maintenance: These adjusters allow you to change the height of the vehicle while keeping the torsion leaves properly seated and under tension.
-
Durability: All-steel construction ensures they can handle the high-stress loads of the front suspension without failing.
-
Versatility: Essential for narrowed beams or when performing a link pin conversion on a custom chassis.
Installation Guide: Step-by-Step
Note: This process requires professional fabrication and welding skills. Ensure all internal grease is removed from the tubes before welding.
-
Strip the Beam: Completely disassemble the front beam. Remove the torsion leaves, link pins, and bushings from the tubes.
-
Locate Center: Mark the exact center position of the factory torsion leaf anchor on the tube.
-
Cut the Travel Window: Using a mill or a cutting wheel, cut a vertical window in the tube. This window should match the travel range of the new adjuster’s grub screw.
-
Clear the Factory Anchor: Remove the original factory-stamped center set-screw housing to make room for the new adjustable assembly.
-
Align the Adjuster: Slide the steel adjuster over the tube and align the 9/16" x 20 thread grub screw hole with your new window.
-
Weld Securely: Weld the adjuster brackets to the beam tube using high-penetration MIG or TIG welding. A full, consistent bead around the brackets is necessary for structural safety.
-
Reassemble: Reinstall your torsion leaves, making sure the grub screw seats firmly into the center of the leaf stack.
-
Set and Lock: Adjust to your desired height and lock the assembly down to secure your new stance.
