Manton 4130 Chromoly Pushrods — Series 1 / Thin Wall (0.035"), 11.500" OAL, Cut-to-Length — VW Air-Cooled (00-4022-0)
Manton Series 1 4130 chromoly pushrod blanks for air-cooled VW engines. The thinner-wall option in Manton's lineup — designed for stock-to-mild builds running standard single valve springs. Lighter than the .058" wall version, which means less reciprocating mass for faster valvetrain response, at the cost of resistance to bending under high spring pressure.
Vehicle Fitment
- VW Type 1 (Beetle, Bus, Karmann Ghia, Thing, Type 3, Baja, Buggy, Sand Rail): stock to mild performance builds
- Cylinder heads: for engines running stock or single valve springs
- Step up if needed: running dual valve springs, a high-lift cam, or sustained high RPM? Choose the .058" wall version (EMPI 00-4032-0) instead
Why Choose Manton?
Manton has been making valvetrain components for high-performance air-cooled engines for over 40 years. Their VW pushrods are the standard reference for serious engine builders — known for straightness, consistent wall tolerance, and tip retention that holds up under high spring pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these pushrods cut to length? No — they ship un-cut and un-assembled at 11.500" OAL so you can trim them to your engine's geometry. Stock VW pushrod length is ~10", giving you up to about 1" of trim.
- How many pushrods are in a set? Eight — one full engine.
- 0.035" wall or 0.058" wall — which do I need? The 0.035" wall (this set) is for stock-to-mild builds with single valve springs. For the other build type, use the 0.058" wall version (EMPI 00-4032-0).
Installation
These pushrods ship un-cut and un-assembled. Stock VW pushrod length is ~10" — the 11.500" blanks give you up to about 1" of trim length to dial in geometry on built engines with custom rocker geometry, oversized cam followers, decked cases, or stroker cranks.
- Use a pushrod length checker (adjustable measurement tool) to determine final length.
- Cut the blank to length and de-burr the cut end.
- Press the ball tips in.
