Oil pressure is what keeps an air-cooled motor alive, and the stock pump is the weak link the moment you add displacement or RPM. This is EMPI's aluminum full-flow oil pump kit (16-9717-0) for 1971-and-later Type 1 engines with the dished cam gear — high-capacity 32mm gears that move more oil, with a billet full-flow cover so you can plumb an external cooler and filter.

CONFIRMED: VW Type 1 engines 1971 and later running the dished/late-style cam gear — Beetle, Super Beetle, Karmann Ghia, Type 3, Bus, Thing/181, Buggy, Baja. NOT CONFIRMED: pre-'71 flat-cam-gear engines (those use the thru-'70 pump). For a 1971-and-later full-flow setup, the pump and case must be tapped and plugged for the external lines — plugs not included.
